Drive through just-harvested sugarcane fields and bright yellow mustard fields to Kishanpur Wildlife Reserve. This densely covered forest with trees like sal and teak and interspersed with meadows and streams is a rich ecosystem supporting a variety of migratory birds and home to the Royal Bengal tiger. We were lucky to have a sighting on the first day itself – a tawny tigress crossing the jungle path. From the watchtower, we saw a pair of pied kingfishers and lots of teals, egrets and jacanas. At Jhaddi Taal, we saw herds of barasinghas and turtles in the swampland.
